So, this morning I read the devotion and then I opened up my Bible to start reading. Today's chapters were Numbers 2-3, and Luke 20. I haven't even finished Numbers 3, but a scripture stuck out at me and I think I'm gonna stop there for now and just really think about it.
I've been hearing a lot about who we are in Christ, as well as living by faith and not having a works mentality. I'm pretty sure it's because God really wants me to get the revelation of this. And these scriptures kinda' fall into that -
Behold, I have taken the Levites from among the Israelites instead of every firstborn who opens the womb among the Israelites; and the Levites shall be Mine. For all the firstborn are Mine. On the day that I slew all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I consecrated for Myself all the firstborn in Israel, both man and beast; Mine they shall be. I am the Lord. - Numbers 3: 12-13, AMP
Okay...so as I was reading that, I was like, "Wow...God is really serious about that. He actually sounds rather jealous, like He means business." Then I remembered the Bible verse (don't know the reference) that refers to God being a jealous God. Then I remembered how in the New Testament it talks about we are heirs according to the promise, and joint heirs with Christ. That we have been adopted into the family.
Well, it stands to reason that since God extended the same love and all that to us, He feels just as strongly about us as He does about Israel. And when you see the way He talks about Israel, referring to her as "His" and all that, you can't help but be amazed by the overwhelming intensity of His love for us. His love truly is extravagant!
